What is an unweighted GPA?
An unweighted GPA puts every class on the same 4.0 scale: an A is 4.0 whether the class is regular, Honors or AP. It can never go above 4.0.
How do I convert a weighted GPA to unweighted?
Take the weighting back out class by class: an A in AP goes from 5.0 to 4.0, a B in Honors from 3.5 to 3.0, then average again. You cannot do it from the weighted GPA alone, because it depends on how many weighted classes were in it. Enter the classes here without their levels.
Is a 3.0 unweighted GPA good?
A 3.0 is a B average on the 4.0 scale. It meets the minimum for many programs and scholarships that set one, but whether it is good for you depends on what you are applying to.
Why do colleges use unweighted GPA?
High schools weight classes differently, so an unweighted GPA is easier to compare between applicants. Many colleges recalculate it themselves from your transcript.
How unweighted GPA is calculated
Convert each letter grade to grade points on the 4.0 scale, multiply by the class’s credits, add up, and divide by the total credits. Class level does not matter: this is the number to compare with students at other schools.

A plus or minus is worth 0.3
On the standard scale a B+ is 3.3 and a B− is 2.7. If your school does not use plus and minus, pick “Whole letters only” as the scale.

- Credits weight each class. Leave every class at 1 if your school averages classes equally.
